Last week I was invited to a Nightwriters mini-event in The Hague’s Nespresso shop. After a warm welcome and a glass of coffee spoom, Dutch writer Kluun and Flemish Vekeman read us several intriguing short stories. Accompanied by DJ Bart Thimbles with jazzy lounge to build a fascinating small show. Next to wine & coffee – a lot of coffee – they talked about men & women, lust & love, parents & children.

The guests of the Nespresso Club, spoiled with special coffee, champagne, and petit-fours, were not just visiting this so called ‘stand-up-story’. They were also participating in a contest: the “six-word story”. Everyone had the opportunity to display their lyrical (amateur) skills. The two writers (Kluun & Veekeman) formed a jury and were very excited to read out several appealing stories. In the end the public decided on picking the winner of the €300 Nespresso-cheque. (I reached the 2nd spot)

The brand of luxurious coffee attempts to organise these mini-events on the spot in a specific context to let customers experience the ultimate Nespresso feeling, to get in personal touch with them (and as I did the contemporary well-know writers), and probably, to facilitate the many-to-many conversation. I find it an remarkable concept and am very excited to hear about its succes.

Ruben van Lingen joined me to make this film to give you an impression of the night.
